I was driving to see a friend and decided to stop for Petrol.
Filled up all good, then the key wouldn't turn.
My (silly) mother had all these theories like "resting" the key or checking if the radio still came on. I could feel in my hand that it wasn't an electrical problem, but a mechanical problem.
I won't bore you with the 2 hours that followed, but RACV eventually came out. Nice indian guy did some cool stuff (like a soft hammer on the barrel) and shaking the steering wheel hard and managed to slip the locking pin back out and insert the key.
We have to leave the key in the ignition all the time and use the spare key to open the door.
The mechanic mentioned getting a locksmith to make a new barrel but use the combination from the old barrel or something so it wouldn't require re-keying. Anyone know how much this'll cost?

Hi, most likey a new barrel and get it keyed to suit door or just use 2 keys. Barrel $80 to $90 fitting $50 may be re keying barrel $50 to $60. + more keys at $25 ea I just paid $25 to get a key copyed. I think that was a rip off. HQ 2 years ago $7.50 .
