I bought a car on the Gold Coast a few weeks ago and its at my brothers house in Briz right now. Just wondering how safe it is to have a transport company move it down to Adelaide for me, or should I go on a road trip with a couple of mates and a 36 year old car with questional reliability.

I dont like the idea of my car sitting in a trucking yard or at truck stops along the way. It stands out like dogs balls, is there a more secure way of transporting cars without costing $3000

Road trip mate. A bunch of us from the west do it all the time in 40+ yr old cars. It's a bucket list thing. Ya gotta do it.

And besides, unless you pay for a VIP service, your car wil have more damage on it from the transporter than the road trip.

Do the road trip.

A highlight of my 2 and a half year trip around Oz was 5 days of driving my recently purchased Brougham from NSW to south west WA.

Get a couple of days of work, take your missus, leave your missus, do whatever you have to do.

I bought a bootful of spares, coolant, oil etc and didn't have to do a thing.

Either way - have fun.

Cheers,

Mike

Yeah I'm thinking road trip too.
I'll have to fly up and spend most of a week getting her reliable enough - shockers, bearings, belts, hoses, thermostat, filters, maybe brakes, spare tyre, all fluids, and go through the electrics etc.

I might fly back up a second time with a few mates and head home via Byron Sydney Bathurst and wherever from there. Have to do a couple of laps.

I've got 6 weeks off soon so no rush gettin home.

Transport it.

I have just done it. Bought a car in Sydney and flew there to drive it home. NIGHTMARE. Cost more in fuel than it would have to transport it. Plus it got covered in SH!T. It was at the height of the locust plague, got that muck ALL over the car, in every crevice, blocked the radiator. Plus by the time I got it home to Adelaide there were numerous new stone chips that magically appeared on the front bar. I wish now that I transported mine. I got a quote for a fully enclosed truck and it was only around $900. $700 for a normal open type truck.

If I had my time again, I would fly there and watch em put it on the truck, then fly home and watch em take it off the truck. That way they are not likely to take it for a thrash round the block.

http://cevacarcarrying.c...7syZLb7KECFQcupAodL1BuKA

That is the mob that I got the best quote off. They specialize in car transport. No harm in asking the question.

But I wish now that I put mine on a truck.

The 'dole roll' ha ha I remember rolling down hills to save juice back in the cash strapped days of my apprenticeship.

Sorry no room, I've already got about 10 mates wanting to go.
If I drive, there will be video, there might even be news footage.

Road trip is always fun, and with 5 guys in the car it would be even better. (do not forget to charge them petrol money). If you need anything before you go let me know.

What did you buy? Live on the edge - when you are 80 you won't remember the car arriving on a car carrier - but you will be telling your grandkids what a great trip you and the mates had.

Well you've got it covered, you can get all that stuff from Autobarn etc up there. Take a good spare dissy in case the one on the car is roo ted, or buy a chinese cheapy HEI to get you home. You don't say much about the carby, go to the Edelbrock website and download the tuning instructions, Rochester Carter Edelbrock all sisters.

Noice.

I thought you were talking about a $5000 dunger, not a $50 grand dream machine. Road trip for sure. Wouldn't let that near a transport truck.

All car transporters are insured and don't want stuff ups either, but for not much more money you could put it in a closed transporter, those guy's move some very expensive motors and they warehouse them, not leave them outside in yards etc. If you want to ship it look in Unique Cars there is a guy in there who I've used and he went out of his way to assist me as well as let me pack the car with spares.

I've got time on my side so I'd like to do the road trip but I've only spent a couple of hours with the car and not sure how reliable it is yet.
I have a feeling its been lacking maintenance for a while.

You could get the fellow out of Unique Cars phone number and take it with you on the road trip in case the GTS s***s itself on the drive home. Which it won't.

I'd get the auto serviced, change the oil & replace the coolant and hoses or even get a cooling system & a suspension check before doing the trip though.

Vandals and graffiti "artists" do everyone a favour and target parking meters and fixed speed cameras only.
