Just got the brake pads on the mazda changed at the dealer (lease car).
So it's done 137k and never had the brakes touched.
Hit the squealers on the pads and thought that's not a bad run.
Then they rang and said the disks were at minimum thickness and also needed replacement.
So my question is, can rotors that have never been machined from new, wear down to minimum thickness just from pad wear?
Bear in mind - at the last service (3k ago) the brakes were reported to be fine for another 10k.
I hate dealers....

Why can't they just machine them?
modern brake rotors seem to be nowhere near as long lasting as the older ones. Many 30 year old cars still have the original disks, unmachined.
By the way you can only machine the disk a couple of times usually, so keep an eye on evilbay for a set to bang on next time.
Although with a lease car you might not have it long enough.

Not so. TS Astra, depending on which version, can have 2 mm to 2.5 mm machined off. Check the DBA disc rotor catalogue, it gives the legal minimum for every rotor on the market. astra can be machined but like most european cars usally theres not much left to machine,

John, think you answered your own question "modern brake rotors seem to be nowhere near as long lasting as the older ones". Depends on car make, driving patterns, etc, as I'm sure you know. Lease cars also tend to be, shall we say, comprehensively serviced.

compare a hk front brake pad im sure it the same pad as a gemini or if it ant its the same size surface area, now compare cars lol, a lot of research is gone into combinations of pad and rotor materials even if it sacrifices some rotor life people want these new cars to stop.

up to 2.5 mm is not much, especially if the pads have been run to the metal or the rotor has had rocks or something jammed in. (just an observation not fighting words)
Is that each side or in total? My daughter has a TS Astra.
