8/84 WB Kingswood ute. V8 4 speed, GTS dash, Factory Air, Power Steering, bucket seats, the bronze colour some of them came in (not sure what it is called),3.08 limited slip diff.
I would then take it to HDT and get them to Magnum it. Stroked 5 litre, Statesman front with all the chrome blacked out, work the suspension over.

How good would it have been to do almost the same thing, but by buying a 1979 Sandman ute in 308 TH400 (or reluctantly M21) and hanging onto it for a few years, then getting HDT to Magnum it!

Warren

Interestingly you referred to an LT1 in an HG. Well I have seen one and discussed it with Ben at length.
A mate swapped his smashed Dodge Challenger for it in the very early eighties. It was a Premier.
Had logbooks and invoice. Originally to a bloke around Mascot/ Eastlakes and the dealer was from around there somewhere. Back then we did not think too much about it being different all we knew was it gave almost everything in our district a shakeup.
We regularly cruised Parramatta road hunting GTs aver a year or two. It was easily as quick as a Phase three.
Combo was LT1. White. Black Int. Cloth trim.Manual. GTS everyting, guards. ROH Kidney mags which were on the dealer invoice. GTS instruments etc. I always wondered how the original buyer would have been able to specify an engine which was not available in Australia. Ben's suggestion was that the original buyer was in the Old Boys' Club.
Basically an HG GTS 350 LT1 "Premaro".

If I could time travel i reckon that would be the one...
In the meantime old red will do.
Nick

Nick, Warren. I assume we are talking 1970.5 Camaro Z28 engine? ie 360hp 350ci SBC.

This is the USA sourced Camaro that I'd really like to own. Being a realist I know i'll never own a 1969 ZL-1!

370 HP LT1 was released in 1970 in corvette and then later that year in camaro(which then made it 70.5 year model due to their next year model being released in august)and had 11.1 comp, solid cam and 780 holley with factory alloy LT1 intake which was high rise, so a slight hood buldge was added to the car. the corvette had 370hp and the camaro had 360hp, but i doubt whether any of these engines ever made their way into our locally produced cars from factory.
my tip is that someone bought an LT-1 crate engine from the likes of super plus, kavanagh auto parts, nicks auto wreckers in melb, and ivan hughes or jim broadley at diablo motors in sydney in the mid to late 70's and fitted them to cars as all the fore mentioned had plenty of these engines available both new and S/H cut out.
makes sense and fits in with timefram of nicks time of his life on parramatta road, but you never know, goes back to me saying who is right and who is wrong in saying what was what and what was not???
ohh, and should have hosed any PHIII in that configuration as well

Hi Byron
I think thats the one. I knew nothing of the LT-1 till my mate arrived at my place in the "Premaro". He explained to us that the motor must have been specially ordered for this car. have never seen or heard of anything like it before or since.
Anyone else heard of such a spec??
Cheers
Nick

Thanks Frank
I am not into creating untrue sensations. Back then I knew enough to realise the importance of a dealer invoice and a logbook. It was all there. HG Prem, white all GTS gear. Dealer invoice listed extras and described the car.
We were all quite amazed by this thing.I wish I knew where it went.
Cheers
Nick

I'm working from what brochures I have, so I may be missing some options. All descriptions are from the brochures.

HR Special sedan 186S, 4 speed, Deluxe heater, AirChief pushbutton radio, disc brake front end. LSD

HK Premier Sedan in Picardy Red, 186S, 4 speed, discs, HD front & resr springs, fast ratio steering.LSD,3.36 diff. Reclining buckets in Cressy red cloth, special instrument cluster, Air Chief PB radio with rear speaker. Radials, sports wheel discs. Laminated screen

HK Monaro in Picardy red. 307 4 speed, 3.08 diff, LSD is mandatory.HD springs front & rear. Discs, Rally wheels, sport wheel discs.
Inside, special intstument cluster, console with tacho, the trusty Air Chief PB radio, laminated screen, reclining seats.
Mrs Premier 350 is finally ready to go, so more to come later.

If it were me I'd order a 5 litre LX SS in Mint Julip or Papaya and delete the side stripes. Or maybe an export HQ Chevrolet 350.

If not a Holden I would go back to Leyland Australia's fire sale and pick up a Force 7V and P76 wagon. Red RS3100 Capri.

Was it a black Challenger with yellow stripes shaped like lightning? was his name Fox? 8-) Sorry I couldn't resist.

Agree, that would have been quite a cool ute. A Sandman van would be pretty nice to after going through HDT.

And if i wanted a auto, i would dump the dopey pathetic T400 power robing slush box for a trimatic any day.

Order a HT Premier wagon w/ L31,M21,G94,C64,UA1,N10,XS6,U21,N40,M11,J52,F71. And for a bit of bling the D93 option. finished off in Phoenician Turqoise and Kashmere white roof with 10X black Prem interior.
(308,4spd,3;08 sals,a/c,p/s,rec buckts,console,GTS dash,hustler mags,dual exh.,H/Duty batt. Venetians, roof racks.
Then throw in your car fridge, tent, family, belongings and cruise all the way up to the nationals. Lifes' good!!!
