Hi there,
I have a HX 202 that I fitted power steering to, however it has a problem.

The front pulley does not centralise!

I have noticed that some harmonic balancers when fully home have a short bore area to centralise the additional pulley, I have started to measure up blue, black and red pulleys and so far there is not much difference, though the reconditioned ones are definately shorter.

I can see that there could be three aeas to check, the crank gear width, the pulley inner length or maybe the crankshaft snought length.

Does anyone have solution before I get burried in pulleys and cranks?

When you say "it does not centralise" do you mean:-

1. It has no centering spigot (must be a non-genuine pulley)
2. It has a centering spigot, but no recess for it to fit (balancer too short)
3. It does have a spigot that does fit in the recess but the pulley is still off-centre (balancer or pulley defective or worse still, a bent crank snout.

Hi,
Sorry about not fully stating the problem.

Problem is that the pulley is almost flush with the end of the crank therefore no pulley bore for the steering pulley to locate into.

Some engines seem to have a longer pulley finishing further out giving a bore to locate into, I have just fitted one to another engine and it is further out and would work fine.

No I don't want to use that engine instead, and yes I have the pulley all the way home!

I made myself a heavy duty clamp to pull the pulley on as I did not want to stuff my crank endfloat or the rear of the block by bashing the pulley and crank with a FBH ( flaming big hammer )

I have a HP block here that has a transverse crack at the rear of number 6 bore bottom, I suspect this may have been from the FBH treatment by a previous
" mechanic"
