hey guys,

first time on this site needed a bit of help with my Astra its my first car and i have a check engine light come. My brother did this trick with his Honda prelude where you could close the circuit on a plug and the engine light would flash would flash a code which could tell you what the problem is without going to get scanned.

I was wondering if my Astra could do the same thing

hope someone can help me out my car is lagging heaps and i dont wanna do it any damage

Hi sammo.

I'm not sure by what you mean by:- "my car is lagging heaps", but you can't read TS Astra fault codes without a proper scanner.

Older cars including VN/VP Commodores & the Honda you mentioned don't have hundreds of codes, so the old short-out routine was a good short cut.

Your problem could be anything from an ignition misfire to a fault oxygen sensor or even a fuel supply issue, get someone with a scanner to check it out.

cheers terry

ah ok well thats a bit of a shame oh well ill go take it in again (they didn't know what was wrong with it before which i think was weird since we took it to a Holden dealers shop) its a bit bizarre the car runs fine for about an hour (with no light come on) but if you drive it for any more than say 30 mins then turn it off when you switch it back on it'll come on. Once it does come on though its like the car switches to a different mode and just feels alot rougher.

lol thats the only way i can explain it
