This could be a question for Warren Turnbull.
Are there any details available about those HK Monaros that have the extra "crease" in the A Pillar? Things like, what manufacturing plant did they come from, how many of them were made etc.
I only saw one at Warwick, but it wasn't wearing its tags, so couldn't determine any details from the car. They seem to be a prety rare breed.

The only ones I have seen are early Pagewood, and so far they have been those with the BODY tag on the firewall. My 81837-2-H5, my mates 80737-20-H5 and also an early 80337 I have all have the early pillars. My mid August Acacia Ridge 81837 doesn't have them. I think I remember Ben telling me early Elizabeth had them too, but Dandenong and Acacia don't, but Warren should be able to confirm this further.

Thanks for that. Wow, such low numbers! My 101 Pagewood car has normal pillars, so it must be less that 100 out of that Plant with the extra crease.

I phtographed two cars at Warwick with them, a yellow car without tags and a blue car.
The guy with the yellow car was told they are from station wagons, but have not confirmed this yet. I do not think it is true though as the pillar is part of the roof also, which incorperates the top corner of the windscreen. As the wagon is square and the coupe is round, then this would be impossible. Plus the pillar on a wagon is the same part number as sedan and ute, Panel van is different as the roof is different.
To the best of my knowledge all plants have them. I am pretty sure the car craig Keene sold recently was a Brisbane car and it had them.
My car was early inner guard, no boot or glove box light car, with tag on top and it did not have them.
From what I can work out, mine was a very early August 68 build.

Thanks Warren. I saw the yellow car without tags, but didn't notice the blue one.
There's always something to learn, I wasn't aware of the early inner guard issue. I still have the original guards hanging in the ceiling of the garage. Is it easy to determine early vs late inner guard?
I've never looked into the possible build date. Mine is a typical "race on Sunday, buy on Monday" car. The original owner went to Bathurst in '68, saw them win, then went to a dealer and either bought the one off the floor or ordered one. That probably puts it in the September / October timeframe. Is there any way to narrow that down a bit?

The date code stamped on the steering box is a good indicator. In those days the steering boxes would've been made 2 to 6 weeks prior to the car's build date, depending in the plant.

I found a photo in my Monaros library that, just by chance, looks to have a "crease car" in it. I've sent it to you by gmail.

Thanks Dr Terry. Should have thought about the steering box date stamp. 19G8 ... 19th July '68. Could be an August / September build car then.
