My HX Tonner with 202 Red and electronic dizzy has all the pollution stuff so that vacuum advance only works in top gear at running temperature, which incidently seems to be the only gear where it pings now having sorted out most of my timing issues, it seems as soon as it goes in top gear the power seems to drop severely and it pings a lot, what I need to know is what are the implications to diconnecting the vacuum advance and blocking off the hose? will this help the problem or only make it worse? do you really need the vacuum advance only in top gear or can it be done without, just relying on the centrifugal advance, as in all the other gears? Thanks...Russell

Hi russellsydney.

The problem you have is that the EGR is not working.

Although I don't like the complexity of an EGR system, they do have a purpose. They cool the combustion temperature by dumping exhaust gas back into the intake, at light throttle
If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0
