Interesting topic this, in August last year i bought a 1970 XW Falcon Sedan a project for my forth coming retirement, being an ex panel beater and having these cars in the past i thought why not. Any way the car not being registered when i bought it, i thought i would do the right thing and check it out with Vic Roads. I handed over all the relevant numbers and so forth but the Vic roads employee could not find anything to confirm that it had been registered in Victoria previously. When i asked the question would this be a problem when i came to register it, imagine my surprise when he came out with the comment "It all depends on the mood we are in on the day" i thought i was hearing things, but no that is what he said. So i have sent of the Numbers to have check done by the AOMC to see what they come up with.

This reminds me of when I went to register my HQ Coupe last August in Brisbane .I had previously approached at least 3 QLD Transport offices to check and clear the tags on my vehicle and even the police but they said they would do nothing until the vehicle was ready to be registered. I had a receipt for the vehicle which stated the numbers on the 3 tags but no history of rego numbers .I had replaced the half chassis with another from a HQ as I suspected a stress crack in the one which came with the vehicle .The ....... who did my roadworthy/safety certificate copied both the number from the drivers side tag and also the number on the new half chassis as the vin numbers. This in turn freaked the girl out at the rego office because she wasn't sure even what a Monaro was let alone one with 2 vin numbers .She sent me to the police who, after checking the vehicle thououghly declared it clean and issued me with a surrogate number .This took an extra 3 weeks of nailbighting wait as the Nationals were looming and I hadn't had time to shake the car down . Whilst I have a new long vin number I also have a car which is guaranteed clean and clear of any theft or encumberance . I would rather have this guarantee than all the "matching" numbers which are supposedly out there .I do still wonder really weather I should have stamped the firewall tag number onto the chassis as I had already borrowed a set of number stamps but got cold feet at the last minute feeling it would be dishonest .
CHANGE IS INEVITABLE , EXCEPT FROM VENDING MACHINES

Can you get around all this rubbish if you do it through club rego? As that is through a club official...? or does the same vicroads problem still arise?

i'd assume it'd be easier cause there'd be no vic roads involved as such

club rego isn't rego it's just a permit
