Yeah....quite a few mods!
You need the whole dash panel from the HZ, and unpick it in the windscreen channel (windscreen removed).
Unpick the HQ dash in the windscreen channel also.
Cut the side mountings of the HQ dash proud so that you have a bit of

If you have any rust in the tonner floor and/or firewall I reckon it's as easy to do a complete cut and shut using a HJ to WB donor front cut. I normally have cut them through the windscreen pillars, and use the complete sills as well. I unpick across the

Have to agree with Byron....definitely easier to do a front end cut & shut. But...you will still need to replace the plenum chamber top panel if you want to keep your HQ bonnet lines.
I did it the hard way because I was putting the dash into an HQ coupe.

If you are lucky enough to find a non rusty HJ to HZ non-ambulance pack tonner cab then you don't have to change the plenum. But then it would be easier to just change the whole cab.

Been away for Easter guys, so just catching up.

Yeah. What Taz said above (sounds familiar Bruce...)...my view of it? To do it once, you need to be really keen, to do it twice, you need to be really stupid!

I have 3 or 4 photos of the conversion (bu

Do you think that your conversions was worth all the work!
What were your pro's and con's for pensioning off the ol HQ dash.

The only 2 cons was losing the originality of an HQ Coupe, and having to match the interior trims.
The positives are manyfold, especially the dash lighting at night.
My dash is a WB Statesman Caprice, so it has all the nice little extras.

Hi Scott,

Yes....and no.

My dash is a DeVille dash but with a Caprice tacho and, yes the lighting is MUCH better than the poxy HQ setup. As is the interior lighting with a Z28 Camaro mirror with inbuilt map-lights and the Stato footwell lights hook

In retrospec, but as they say hindsight is always 100%.
I have already had the original cab beated and sprayed for a few months before
I stumbled onto this donor tonner, I still have that option, as all I have left out of
the donor is the complete she

You're welcome Tunna. If your original cab is straight and rust free, it's be worth an absolute fortune. I have heard of good tonner cabs going for between $1500 and $3000....may be worth considering depending on the condition of your donor ute's cab....

Qute,
They are both in good nick, little to no rust in either, small bits around the windscreen cowling, but not much. I was thinking of getting rid of the donor once my
rocket was on the road, may help pay for insurance/rego etc. Thanks heaps guys
