Ive always wondered why the road centre lines changed from yellow to white ? eg. no overtaking on double yellow lines.well now its double white lines. Was it a safety thing, white being more visable or maybe a cost thing cheaper to do all lines white? One more question is what year did it start changing?

It says edited by me, as I moved this to the "pub" section, out of the buy/sell area where you accidentally posted it.

That's a very good question. Considering that everything else was painted white, could it have been a cost saving exercise?

Another thought I had - they mix glass beads into the "paint" these days - which is actually more of a polymer that is heated to melt it, applied in it's molten form, and then once cooled it forms a much more resilient line marker than traditional paint. The glass beads embedded in the polymer give it excellent reflective qualities.

Cheers,

Mick

I would say that it's either a cost saving thing by the NSW government or just a way to conform as VIC always had double white lines.

NSW still has double yellow lines on some roads which they have not touched in 20+ years (steadily getting fewer) and where it snows they still use yellow as it contrasts with the snow.

Vandals and graffiti "artists" do everyone a favour and target parking meters and fixed speed cameras only.
