Well I am back into Holden just bought a VR wagon and need a few bits, like glovebox, radio, front bumper and bonnet and odds and sods, anyone in Perth got one laying around? Also towbar. fit a wagon.

Jim I am right up there with you on that but I can't bring another car into the yard, have 6 there already and the council are not too happy, they claim neighbours are complaining.
If I start wrecking even more problems.
Simpler to just get the bits off someone else, not as though they are expensive.
Did another stupid thing today, replacing the big drive belt as the old one was pretty cracked, undoing the nut off the tensioner l managed to break the whole tensioner body so now have to replace that, lot of work for not taking care.
I thought the nut had to come off did not realise you are supposed to just use the nut to lift the tensioner so the belt comes loose. Tried to undo the nut. won't do that again.

Pete I am going down to perth on wednesday if I can get this bloody tensioner replaced (a local is letting me rip one off his bush basher ) but I will have to get it back to him so whats your pump like? I was going to put one of those kits through my old pump tank as it seems to be leaking from the bottom of the tank. maybe put one through the pump as well, they are only about $13 from GMH.
Also I just discovered the lights don't work so have to rewire the sod. It has lights if I operate the high beam flasher so the problem is behind the dash somewhere. After all the years of experience and having owned over 300 cars I forgot to check the lights! but I was in a hurry had to get home, and needed transport so got a bit careless. was still a good buy the motor and box are good but should not have been caught by this one!

John, check the headlight relays & fuses under the bonnet.
The VR uses earth triggering for the headlights too - handy to know when you're probing the circuit (so you don't go crazy wondering why there's no +12V signal!)
Cheers,

Mick

Ha Ha jokes on me. I replaced the dash panel because the tipmeter and odometer weren't working and the guy I got it off wanted to make sure it was working so he ripped the old one out for me and bunged the new one in, he had a V8 one in mint condition and a V6 one not so mint anyway we discovered the V8 tacho dash won't work in a V6 which annoyed him a bit but just as well he did do the swap into my car straight away or we would not have found out till I got around to putting it in, and he would be stuck with one he could not use.
Anyhoo, doing some fiddling I discovered he had not connected the light switch up at the back of the dash, plugged it in, we have light!
still no stereo, so boring long drives, but it will come.

Mick what does earth triggering mean? Maybe thats why I can't find a live wire for the stereo to connect to. some previous owners did a midnight express removal of the stereo, i.e. wirecutter special.
so I have about a dozen wires to choose from. obviously about 8 0f them will be to the front and rear speakers and I know the black and white one is earth.(or is it black?) Got a VN shop manual but the wiring is different.
