Hi all, new member and first post.
After procrastinating for many years I am about to buy a Statesman (between the years of 72-79)but would like to check out further info before I decide which one to get. I know it is all a personal choice but at this time I have necessarily decided on a HQ (308 or 350 model), HX or HZ. Also over here in NZ not quite as many options as over their. Anyway any pointing in the right direction for further info would be much apreciated.

Hi Tone.
It's all a matter of personal choice.
Some people prefer the curves of an HQ over the squarer HJ/HX/HZ.
Some people prefer the superior handling & 4 wheel disc brakes of the HZ.
In Australia HQ/HJ have no exhaust pollution gear, the H |

Thanks for the reply Dr Terry.
All of those things u have mentioned has been what I have been weighing up. I prefer the look of the HQ and have been advised that the HZ has superior handling & 4 wheel disc brakes. Also aware of the availablity of a "

If you intend to keep it original, try and find a 350 HQ. If any Statesmans become collectable the ones that will, will most likely be the rarer models eg HQ 350, HZ SL/E or WB Magnum. |

If you decide on HQ and not too fussed about keeping it absolutely original, you can fit an HZ subframe and end up with the good flowing looks of the HQ coupled with the handling of an HZ. It is a straight swap over. One time when you can have your cake, |

You can't quite have the cake. Unless you are doing something 'naughty' by doing this you are converting the HQ into a HZ, meaning as a minimum ADR27A or at the worst (if it's a 350) an Engineer's certificate. |

In SA if you had a HQ and fitted a HZ sub frame no one would know because nobody checks , I know of a few over here that have been changed over the years and no one is the wiser except the owner.

Hi Guys.
As Byron has pointed out, things are a little tougher in NSW.
We have yearly rego checks & the engine no. & chassis no. are check each time.
