I'm first inline to buy an LS off my uncle 6 months from now. He got it from the first owner, his father inlaw. Done a grand total of 35,000 Km
Havent got any photos, I was looking for a 2-door GTS but I probably cant let this one pass me by. Once I've got it I cant really sell it, its a family thing so if I buy it its a keeper.
White with a vinyl roof, 6 cylinder auto with 35K on the clock 100% original and two very careful owners. What do you guys think its worth?

I would have thought an heirloom type of car as this would have no value, i.e. handed from one generation to another. You say; "Once I've got it I cant really sell it, its a family thing so if I buy it its a keeper".
But it is being sold to you isn't it? I have been given a HR. My Grandad's new, Dad's since the mid 80's, mine 5 years ago. Nice car, needed a bit of tidying. I won't sell it. As has happened previously, I will also give it away, possibly to a nephew as I have no kids.
My point is, if you are buying it, & you can't sell it, is it a car that you really want anyway? At what stage of this cars life does the idea of selling it become a problem or not allowed? Before or after it is yours? Perhaps the family could decide that before it changes hands this time. At least then you will know where you stand. Edited by user Tuesday, 5 April 2011 12:08:05 AM(UTC)

I Agree with all the above...in short I think if you BUY something you can SELL it...if it a hand down thru generations you shouldnt have to buy it in the first place,so it goes somewhere else..(big deal) |

Its worth what someone will pay could be $10,000-30,000 if you buy it then its yours to sell even if your not popular afterwards, drop a 308 in it and keep the original motor and put some GTS wheels on it . GTS is not everything in life enjoy the car for what it is you do not see many LS monaro`s around as most were made into GTS replicas, so you will have a rare car in its own right.

Because its not a freebee, if I want it I'll have to buy it so Im wondering what a HQ LS 6 cylinder auto might be worth.

You say that you can never sell it if you buy it but hypothetically what's Unk gong to do with it if you don't buy it? Sell it outside the family? It's not a GTS but it does have the same fantastic styling and can look just as good as a GTS with some wheels, Guard flutes and maybe paint blackouts which are all reversible mods. Drop in an injected 5.0 or TPI SBC and you'll have something that goes as hard as a GTS. Of course if you do all of that you'll need to store the original front guards, Wheels and running gear. So yes I reckon you do need another car as original survivors are not getting more and more common. Edited by user Friday, 8 April 2011 7:34:19 AM(UTC)

Hi
I really don't like the people "selling" things to their relatives or friends with strings attached.
Once you own it it is yours. Others in your family might not like you doing something outside of the current owner's ideals, but that is just their tough luck.
What if your circumstances change or you become less interested over time?
You asking for the value indicates perhaps the owners or the rest of the family want a reasonable price for it. If that is so let one of the others buy the thing and put up with the obligations. in the meantime and you could go and get what you want.
In this market you will probably get a V8 with less provenance and more miles on the clock but what the heck!
Anyway thats my 20 cents worth.
I hope you end up happy with whatever decision you make.
Cheers Nick |
