Hi guys,
Clearing out the garage....
FOR SALE: HOLDEN 253 V8 & SUPRA 5 SPEED GEARBOX.
I purchased these from a mate who used to run a speed shop in Boronia. I removed them from his old panelvan... see pics below..
The story was that the 253 was worked, and used to beat 308's. I have absolutely no idea what's been done to it, or what the condition is like inside this engine. I was told it's a bit tired these days, so would need a freshen up. As you can see in the pics, it's got good quality rocker covers, and a decent 4 barrel intake. Pretty sure it's pre-pollution, but will need to check. The sump pictured is no longer fitted (I sold this ages ago with the oil pickup).. but I may be able to provide another sump if required. It's still got a good flywheel fitted. No carb, no dizzy. I'm guessing that it's got a decent cam, compression, and head-work.
The gearbox is a Supra 5 speed, and I was told it's a W55. I had this gearbox in another car for a little while (behind a stock 253), and it has 3 minor issues:
1. The speedo never worked, so the gear inside the box is not turning. I've been told it's common that they slip off the shaft or something. Not a huge issue anyway, but needs looking at.
2. The gear shifter itself has a loose feel about it. It still works fine, but might need a new bush or something like that? Once again, shouldn't be a huge issue.
3. Generally speaking, the box is a little bit worn, mainly 5th gear whines a little bit. Still drives fine with no problems (never skipped a beat for me), but I always planned to freshen it up with new bearings. So it's just a 'good old runner'.
The bellhousing pictured is NOT PART OF THE SALE - it was put into another car and sold ages ago. Also, there's no pressure plate. I may or may not have a 2nd hand clutch plate, throw-out fork, and V8 thrust bearing - need to check my garage. The box does have a shifter, just not shown in photos.
PRICE: $450 for the lot.
