Was wondering if someone can tell Me the process of taking off the upper and lower control arms on a hj premier.

I have stripped the engine bay and want to repaint them.

skipping the common sense stuff (like jacking and safety)........

take off the wheel
take off calliper
take off tie rod nut and take off tie rod
take off sway bar link
take out shocker
take off lower ball joint nut and separate from steering knuckle
take out spring
take out the 2 bolts holding the control arms in and your done!

if you have any questions about any particular task then just ask

What a great reply. How do you do the same thing for a HG?

Regards, Alan.

i've never done a HG but i'd imagine it'd be very similar if not the same?

the differances i can think of is the HQ control arms bolt straight onto the chassis were the HG has a K frame they bolt onto

the process should be the same though, the idea is to strip everything away and remove the spring, once the spring is out it's just a matter of unbolting the control arms from there mounts

word of warning, be very carefull after you remove the ball joint nut, support the bottom of the control arm with a jack, when the ball joint comes off the spring can jump out if the control arm is allowed to swing down without support, it's better to lower the control arm slowly with the jack

The HG control arms cant be unbolted. I think you have to pound the bushes out under the car. Can someone confirm?

Thanks.
