Hi people,
Am currently looking at acquiring an Escort panel van, and decent ones that have been well maintained seem to be very rare. I know pretty much nothing about them though, is there anything I should look out for when checking them out? Common problems, etc... would be much appreciated so I know what to look for.
Anthony.

Only common problem I can remember with the escorts is that they liked to rust out around the windscreen and the plenum. The 1.6 is a nippy little engine but the 1.3 is a slug with asthma and a sore foot. Good luck with the hunt. My old man had an escort van years ago. Was a fun little wagon to drive.

hi Anthony
we have a stock '79 Escort Sundowner in pine n lime and its a wonderful fun car. As Paul mentioned, rust around the plenum can be a problem and also check the A pillars and gutters. Mechanically we've had no problems with the drivetrain (its a 2 litre 4 speed) and it does move along very well.
As you said, good ones are hard to come by, but worth the wait!
cheers franklin
