Hi All
I am a new member and I was wondering if I anyone can help with an issue identifying what transmission should be in my HQ 80837 GTS 2 Door Monaro. The car needs restoration and did not have a gearbox or engine however my issue is that when I contacted Holden they sent me a letter confirming all details except they identified the car as having a four speed manual. The car itself has a Trimatic badge on the back and an automatic console so I called the previous owner who showed me a Holden letter he received from Holden confirming all details except they identified it as a Trimatic. I phoned Holden but they couldn't help me so my issue is how do I confirm what it left the factory with, manual or Trimatic?
Thanks for your help!

If the car is a 73 or 74 model, M40 will be stamped on the body ID plate. If not & the car is relatively untouched, then check for the presence of a kickdown switch, along with the associated wiring etc. Check to see how original the brake pedal linkage is etc. etc. In other words anything unique to the Tri-Matic.

If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0 |

Thanks for your reply Dr Terry, appreciated mate. It's a 72 model, I have had a look but I still can't confirm either way so I might as well fit a four speed as per the current letter from Holden.
