Hello,
I own a 1998 holden vectra and have had one key stolen with a bag and the other lost. So now I have no keys.
I have been quoted $400 to get my local lockmsith out to cut me one key, seems like alot to me but i wouldnt know.
Is there any other easier way to get another key?
Thanks!

You could remove a door lock and take it into the locksmiths and get them to cut a key for it. If the car has an transponder chip then you may be stuffed. Either way you will need to shell out some cash.

holden can do it using the vin no off the car, but will not be cheap either, but give them a call & see what they can do.

There are 3 separate sections to the Vectra key.

1. Remote key head. This part needs to purchased new from a Holden dealer & then programmed/matched to the car. The remote is not essential it only unlocks the doors & has nothing to do with starting or the immobiliser.

2. Key blade. This needs to be purchased from either a Holden dealer or a locksmith & needs to be cut to fit the ignition barrel &/or door lock. The suggestion of removing the door lock barrel & taking it to a locksmith will save some $$$.

3. Transponder chip. This is a tiny piece (looks like a piece of broken black plastic) which fits inside the key before the remote slides in. A new one needs to be purchased from a Holden dealer & matched to the car's immobiliser. Without this the car will not start.

If the $400 quote includes all of the above, it is not a bad price.
