Just wondering if even if you had a rally s***ty pair of guards would it still be cheaper to get flutes installed and have the guards repaired than buy a set of repro ones? I mean surely...

Yeah for sure mate. Get a backyarder to give them a light scuff, slap some bog and chicken wire in them and put some tacks of weld around the flutes and bobs your uncle. Should be able to get the pair done for $400.
On second thoughts, I think dirty davo said he can repair the ones he's got for $300 bux so try that option. |

cheers SS, thats right. i have good original standard guards for 2-300 bux that you could spend 2-300 max with a competent panel beater (i dont support backyarders)& they would be perfect & garrenteed to fit properly. regards DD bellarineclassicautos.com.au

Surely you could detect the sarcasm. A 'typical' 40 year old GTS guard could not be repaired for less than a new replacement one if it was done properly by a reputable panel shop/tradesman. I'm not saying that you aren't reputable, I was justing quoting what you put up in a different post. Seriously, how can a guard be repaired for $300? What hourly rate? and where are you getting your materials from? At least $1500 to sandblast the guard, cut out the rust, weld it up, knock out the dents, primer paint etc etc... |

aint the flutes pressed at the same place as the full guards? if so seems a waste of time fixing a rust guard & fitting a chinese flute? |

hopefully the tiawan guards have better flutes in em than th chinese repro flutes have been. either way, feedback tells me new guards just need flute splits welding up & slight mods around h/light surr, & mods to make line up with stone tray properly. then maybe they be a good thing???? with simons hourly rate prob only 3-400bux extra, then ready to prep & prime up ready to paint an hope they fool everyone that they look genuine
