a HQ coupe the seller says is originally finished in seabring orange.. the seller has blanked out some of the paint No's on the tag. but is stamped oddly for a HQ from what I've seen..
paint: 568-1****-53-10 I've never seen a HQ tag stamped like this..
opinions???

The exterior trim number appears to be 9999. It must be a special order.

Note the length of the colour code, it is also one of those spec ials that leo would have made, so i doubt it was sebring orange, but some other colour.

Not an LS either, just a Monaro.

It is a Pagewood car too so unlikely to be a Leo car. 9999 is normal Pagewood for a special paint.

Unfortunately regardless of its rarity, I can't see that one making it back onto the road.

Probably correct but the interest in this car is the special build details. And the fact it is such a rare car ie a post 1972 Monaro (not LS or GTS or GTS350) with engine, box and diff options which makes it rare before you take into account the special colour.

i think it's fixable!

yep it'd be a challenge, but if i had the money i'd take on the challenge, it's a bit expensive for me though

i'd love to have a HQ coupe project, but the prices for these cars are too much for me :-(

does anyone want to buy it for me, lol

good news! (prices dropping i mean)

i've taken i liking to body work? i find it very enjoyable, i'd happily take on a project like this!, the thing is though, you'd only want to pay F'all for it, there's a years worth of weekends and a shirt load of welding and metal to go into it!!! and that's just to get it repaired and in primer!!

it's the things like chrome trims, seats ect that cost big dollars as well so finishing it off costs heaps too

so who wants to take a guess at the end sale price?

i'll guess $3500

i'd pay $500, but only cause i know how much work it'd take to repair, that LHS quarter is yucky

Just be persistent. I found mine at the height of the boom for 6k with no rust, very easy panel work and only things missing were original front seats and 2 pieces of chrome trim.

What about a colour for the HJ range? I recall talking to the Monaro guru some time ago about odd coloured cars and he told me that Holden held clinics for the selection of upcoming colours and stuff. They would parade several cars in varying shades of a particular colour and the people would vote on the one they liked best. This car is most likely one of those cars where three or more Monaros in red/orange would be lined up and you took your pick of the colour that tickled your fancy. The winner went on to be the colour for the range. This car on ebay looks almost like a faded Mandarin red so maybe it was a variation on that colour? And it is a Monaro not an LS as advertised too.

i know the history of that car in question going back to around the years being 1984-5, its was then a one owner car, handed down to the son(and always from the area mentioned in the ebay listing)that loved it as much as the original owner and from memory it was definitely orange, without a doubt. the car had silver wheels with standard hubcaps with no dress rims fitted(just like a belmont) and i always used to comment on how plain it looked, even down to the protector strips on the side, pretty sure thats the same car, i should try track down some history about it, see where it got to after i lost sight of it not long after the years i mentioned

Apart from the paint, the odd thing about it is it appears to have been an internal to GMH Victoria car BUT it was built in Pagewood. Frank, history on the car would be invaluable to hostorians!

Hi guys, I was just wondering if anyone had anymore info regarding this car? I am the new owner! A few of you may think its past repair but its actually not too bad. I have replacement rear quarters for it and a very patient mate who is a panel beater,so ill see how it goes. I couldn't pass up such a rare car especially with matching number everything. Any info at all would be greatly appreciated. You can send me an email on [email protected]
