Hey Guys, I'm putting power steering in my XB and I have been told the steering colum maybe a different in length, like the XD, is this true? if so what modifications must be done?

Phill, you can use your steering column. It won't look like it will fit because it's telescopic. You can adjust the bit that sticks out of the column by gently tapping it with a block of wood. You will need the fibrous power steering gizmo that connnects the colomn to the box. Standard and power steer are different. You'll need the V8 pulleys for the belts and the V8 brackets for the pump. The XA to XF power steering boxes, both V8 and 6 are the same. Best pump is the tear dropped one out of the late XE and the XFs. Doesn't matter if they are 6 or 8 cyl ones either as long as you have the V8 mounting brackets. Can't remember if the 6 cyl and V8 lines are the same length or not. Hope that made sense.

It's got a couple of handy hints and also mentions something I forgot. Make sure the box is centred when you install it or mention that it needs centering when you get the wheel alignment.

is it a v8? if not there are different crank pulleys on the 6 so make sure you get a 3 bolt or 4 bolt
also the better boxs are the xe-xf and even better again are the xg boxs, most modern reco units have been fitted with the xg top roller bearing so try and get one of those
there are also minor differnces to the outlet pipe between models, some are upright some are on a 90 degree outlet pipe, easy enough to run new flex hose to the steel lines and make it work though.

i found on my ZK when i did one last month it was easier to remove the master and booster and pull it up from the top. had to shove a few wires and pipes out of the way but i figured it was easier then removing the exhaust, good excuse to bleed your brakes with fresh fluid
