i got a hq 1 ton, a 253 with holly 2barrel (Is red the HC engin?) the trimatic is on its way and the enging is not in best shape. i looking at going 308 with t-350.
People are telling me dont wast money just put a 4 barrel on the 253 and see how u go on fuel and some people say go 308 with a 4 or 5 speed manual for more fun.
My mind is spining around now and i not sure witch way to go.
injection was on the list but i hurd it cost big $$ and as its my every day car i cant really have it off the road to long.

any sugestions? i want this car to have power but still be able to use it for everything else (FOR NOW)

If its your everydayer consider the injected 5 litre and trans. There is not much extra work and the rewards more than make up for it.

Otherwise an older 308 with a Qjet gives great economy and still has plenty of grunt. Especially with a manual.

Of the 2x 253s I have, the 253/m20/.308 gives good economy and power with a Holley. The Holley is happy from 1500-2500 rpm, not lower. It gets 26mpg 10.9kms/100km at cruise. The Stromy/Tri/278 I am still working on. Correctly tuned it may be as good as a

GTS TON,
I agree with TruBluHq, the 253's are a top everyday V8. If the cars original why not keep it that way ? You could save $600 if u take motor out n back in urself. A full Rebuild incl 1st OS, Rad, Wpump, Cam, Lifters and heads should cost up to $2

I tend to agree with everyone else. For an everyday driver keep a 253. I'd fit a pre-pollution 4-barrel manifold and quadrajet, but get a recoed quadrajet from someone like Hume performance, and have the correct metering rods fitted, and setup on a dyno.
