My FJ is running with modern day number plates but I have the original plates as well. All numbers. I rang the department of transport asking what do I need to do to get the old one's back on. Was told to hand them in and can't be used. I can apply for them back and if lucky will have to pay a very high price for them. I asked how much and was told thousands WTF and that's every year!!!!. The last time the original plates were on was 1996. Is there some loop hole I can use to get these great plates back on? I live in SA. If the previous owner has the specific rights to the plates. They can be transferred into your name. If not, you have to hand them back and apply for them. When the number comes available again you will have to bid on them at auction. Evan & Clarke have held these auctions in the past on behalf of Motor Reg. The minimum starting price for a 6 didgit number plate is $3000.00. Same thing happened to a friend that brought a FJ with an old black and white number plate. I Believe its call revenue raising. Best of Luck.

Ain't that the truth! Damn shame too. There's no reason for it. If the history of the vehicle and number plate isn't suspect in any way, why is it an issue? |

here in victoria you pay a 'one of fee' of about $295 for "custom plates" then you own them for as long as you keep it registered!!! regards DD 0412109239 035288055 [email protected]www.bellarineclassicautos.com.au

In SA you can pay a one off payment of $76 and choose an R or S series number plate. Not really FJ era but not modern either. Must start with an R or S just like the late 60's to 70's plates were. Black letters on white with SA in the middle. http://www.transport.sa....plate/ezyplates_app.htm
