All HK HT HG GTS had 140mph whether they be 6 or 8. In HT HG the same dash as factory fitted into a GTS was offered as an option in all models, 6 or 8, as a 'Sports" dash. Brougham dashes were 120mph.
A lot of people refer to the HK 120mph dash with gauges for amp, oil, temp, fuel as a GTS dash or a 6 cylinder GTS dash. This is incorrect. It was an option on all HK models except GTS.

like if you ordered a 'sports dash option' in a prem/brougham/kingsie etc, whether it be "V8" or "6 banger" all you gott was 120MPH speedo unless specified!!

No Dave, not the case. The sports instrument cluster (GTS dash) was always 140mph. My unmolested HT Kingsy with 186 and opel four speed has a 140 mph sports dash.

i will agree to dissagree to that one! UNLESS SPECIFIED, you would have received a '120MPH' SPEEDO!! i have had HEAPS of '120MPH speedos in prem/kingsies etc with sports dash option (& i mean "HEAPS" in my 21 + yrs of hoarding

Speedo's are an interesting feature. EJ Holden had 100mph, and EH had 120mph. Really a far out dream for even a 179 manual, let alone a 149 auto.

That's true, but instruments are usually designed so that they spend their working life at half of full scale. That being the case they expected EJs to average 50 mph & EHs 60 mph throughout their life.

Some years ago my wife had a Vectra 4-cyl wagon. Its speedo read to 260 km/h, which it was never going to get near. It was very tall in its gearing, so obviously the designers expected it to spend a lot of its life on the German Autobahns at 130+. It cruised the freeways here as well as a late model Commodore.
