Nah WB Statesman was the pinnacle of the HQ-WB Statesman by a country mile. Maybe values will start to reflect this in time to come. Maybe they won't, who knows. The styling was no more in your face than the big fins up the boot lid of a HQ-HZ Stato in my opinion.
However this thread was about cars 20 years old so they are irrelevant any way.

Latest Unique Cars mag has a restored VB HDT Brock Commodore for $195000. Supposedly 1 of 2 prototypes. Anyone have $195000 laying around they don't want?

Capri convertible.....about as desireable as another timeless classic .... the venerable Triumph Herald..... Also, similar to the Capri with the turbo option, there was the Herald Vitesse with more go...WOW! Now you're cookin' HOOEEE! Edited by user Tuesday, 27 December 2011 10:44:26 AM(UTC)

Funny this thread has come up as today i was facing a bit of a dilemma.
You see,i have a nice and original VN HSV SV5000 in the green,168K with log books.
I need to sell it as i have a project id like to undertake but today i looked at it and was wondering if id be kicking myself in 10yrs time?
Do i put it away or do i sell????

Saw a P plater flogging the crap out of one of these a few years back, & I thought to myself if only he knew!!! (did the same to more than 1 HQ coupe) |

i think the WB stato has a bit of a run left in them. the square look is making a comeback . my daily driver is a WB stato, young people are asking me what sort of car is it at servos etc.? i don't think that cars from the 1990's / noughties will ever be as collectable, as the australian car culture of the 1970's 80's is not as strong in the young people of today Edited by user Monday, 2 January 2012 12:36:23 AM(UTC)

I would disagree with the 90s statement, as my eldest son's friends were right into VN to VS Commodores, with most of his friends having one and doing it up to some degree.
One of his mates ended up with 4 of them.
Now a few of my daughter's male friends are right into the VTs.
I remember the days when an HK would never be worth anything, (people told me in 1988, after I had restoreded my HK GTS, that it would never be worth anything, last "real" Holdens were HRs) let alone an HQ to WB.
Those who fail to remember history are destine to relive it.
Try and buy a VN Group A SS, then compare this with the price of a phase 3 in 1991 (when it was 20 years old) to the price of a standard Falcon. You might be plesently surprised at how much the VN group A is already pulling.

Collectible car values have increased from the 80's and 90's because money is easier to borrow, not because they are a better investment.

TOTALLY AGREE Warren, My brother had a VL Turbo Calais when he was in his early 20's and "he wished he never sold it" and is now looking for another to restore. Finding a good one for the right money is proving difficult. Have mate with that had a white VN SS as the first car he bought with his own coin. Again he wishes he never sold it and is looking for another to restore. I bet there are countless stories out there exactly the same. How many people are going to have their midlife crisis and want to relive their youth in a Nissan GTR like they had when they got their licence? When I got into HK's, the EH was the car to own, and it was pretty expensive compared to the HK. But now they are not a sort after car. HK is going the same way. HQ - WB will follow shortly after. As Warren said, these things roll with the generations.

Going by what people in our club are buying/restoring some earlies for sure but HQ-HZ are on the increase including statesmans hj-hz the later classics are mainly targeted by the 35-60 age group but not inclusive in the same age group HK-HG prems are popular, our club caters for 48-HZ and plenty of earlies are also in our club.
People remember cars from their childhood as well as 1st cars they drove. My 1st car was an FC standard ,although I have a soft spot for them I would rather and do own HQ onward cars for size and power . Being an Historic reg officer in our club I love seeing all early models and chatting to the owners.
