Ok, up until the EH, the model codes signified the year of the model, ie E =60 anf H =4
so what happened afer that with the others, ie where dir GM-H get HD, HR, HK etc from?

Dr Terry might know. They are SERIES codes though, not model codes. Models for example for HT-HQ are like V8 Kingswood wagon, or 6cyl Monaro coupe etc. HK and HJ-WB are simply Kingswood ute, Premier wagon, Belmont sedan etc. |

I have no idea where they derived the codes from HD onwards, they are almost random, but the H mostly likely signified Holden.
Just correcting 65ehpv though, EH was for 63 not 64. The model series codes stood for the year of 'indented' release, which is why some are not quite correct.
The code breaker works as follows:-
A = 0 B = 9 C = 8 D = 7 E = 6 F = 5 G = 4 H = 3 J = 2 (there was no I) K =1
Using this list FJ = 52 (it was introduced 1 year later than intended) FE = 56 FC = 58 FB = 59 (1 year late) EK = 61 EJ = 62 EH = 63 EF = 65 (never released)
Even the 50 series (50-2106 = FX ute) was a year late, it was released in 1951.
There was a rumour that HD was the then Managing Director's initials backwards (his name was David Hegland) but this was never confirmed.

If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0 |
