Holden and Toyota laying off staff because the strong Aussie dollar is making our cars too expensive overseas?

Would not the strong aussie dollar be helping them produce the cars a lot cheaper because all of their imported parts are now cheaper to obtain???

HMMM

And why is the high Aussie dollar nor bringing our fuel prices tumbling?

Quantas are jacking up ticket prices due to the cost of fuel which surely is cheaper now due to the high Aussie dollar especially in cases where they refuel overseas.

I'm not an economist but I reckon some companies may be telling us porkies.

what annoys me is when the price of oil goes up, the petrol goes up the next day, when the price of oil goes down, the price of petrol takes 2 weeks to come down

From what i under stand is that we get taxed 3 time and i think it is stamp, import, and the good old F*#king gst and that equals adout 80%+ of fuel costs, But why would the government stop that they wouldn't wan't to give us a break and give the local economies a chance to survive, because if the fuel was about half the cost it is today then people would spend more on cars, and caravaning holidays, and local or interstate holidays,i used to be a sales rep for a caravan mob that sold accesories and major bits to build caravans and when the price of fuel went up sales droped,I've recently perchaced a Range Rover I know that she drinkes like a fish but i known that for a long time and have spoken to a lot of Rangie owners and they have said that they love gas, so to stuff up the petro companies and the gover-dorks i'm going gas when i gat a chance wether this makes a difference or not (which i hope it dose)because i recon that if everyone went gas what would happen to the taxes and the petro companies it would make them stand up and take notice that we have had enough.
well that's my opinion

Would make no difference to the oil companies as more cars on gas equals higher demand therefor higher gas prices it's happening now, LPG is 79.8CPL in Queanbeyan. Just over the border in Hume ACT I was reamed 69.9CPL and a huge $1.50.9 for unleaded.

Diesel is the way to go as you use less of it.

Fuel is relatively cheap. $1.40-$1.60 a litre, not much else is that cheap by the litre. Go to Europe and see how much they pay!

They want to improve diesels before i'll own one. I still am yet to drive one that is any good. With the difference in relative economy between my V6 SR5 and a D4D one it'd take a minimum 3 years to pay off the difference in purchase price.

At the moment you can get gas on diesel, had a interstate driver pull up at the servo about a month ago and he was filling up a lpg tank it took about 200 ltrs and i asked him how it works ,he said that it injects not alot of gas just a small amount and gives him alot more power uses less diesel and gose further than without gas and dose no damage to the engine and is cheaper to run gas and diesesl than diesel alone

Last year we did a trip to Europe. Fuel is much the same as we pay but when you take the Euro exchange into account, yes it is dearer. We drove a Fxxd Focus diesel turbo sports and the thing flew! Also an Opel Astra 1.1 litre turbo petrol and it had no trouble hitting 160kmh. We had a Toyota Yaris in Ireland, this is the absolute worst car I have ever driven. That is apart from the Nissan Micra. YUK.

Interesting thing, diesel is cheaper over there by a significant margin. I would say about 80 % of private cars would be diesel.

So I agree, we are bieng ripped off severely over here. Jim, I am also in Canberra. When I go driving in the country at the moment Canberra prices are the highest in the area.
