Odometer is not working is there a common problem,all gears look ok in speedo head.Any ideas would be much appreciated.My car is an EAs 3.9multi point 5speed man.Thanx

there is a very soft tamper proof gear that disintergrates over time on the side of the odometre, can be bought new from ebay

not sure mate, ive done a few xe ones which were semi seethrough brown but they are a different gear to xf-ed, never personally done one on your model but i know there a common probelm

Yes its a grey (usually) gear about the size of a 5c piece.
VN, VP, VR and VS Commodores have the same gear.
My theory is that they break when you reset the trip meter while the car is moving.
I have had two EB's and between them they had travelled 750,000 km when they were sold and I never busted one of those gears.
Might be a good opportunity to find yourself a tacho cluster from a Fairmont or S pack.
