With the current fuel crisis and the development of the next model Commodore, the VF, do you think Holden will introduce a diesel range in the utes? It makes better sense than LPG due to space constraints.

Maybe. Not sure how well it'd sell. I wish Toyota, Nissan etc would go the other way and sell a V8 4x4 like the Tundra and Titan, and not just give us 4cyl turbo diesel cr@p or V6's not really suited to the application!

The holden ute range is a toy not a workhorse, i cant see a diesel alternative being well received by the target market.

A v8 powered "mans ute" as mentioned above would be a real good thing!

VF...no chance,will be the last Ute and Wagon,as for the Sedan as we know it,inc no more V8 after 2016.
Diesel has been tried in the c/dore since the VX and the overall cost to build and sell is not viable....that is what the rodeo,colarado and captiva,cruze is for.

I contacted Holden and their response is as follows:

We write in reference to your email received at Holden Customer Assistance regarding your request

to know if Holden will be releasing a VF Commodore Utiliy with electric, fuel or diesel options.

Please be advised at the present moment, Holden have not announced any future plans for an electric, fuel or diesel VF Commodore Utility be to introduced into Holden's model range. If any new vehicles are announced, further information will be posted on the Holden website (www.holden.com.au) and vehicles will be made available to the Holden dealer network and the general public.

The only options that i know of are....unleaded,95,premium,E10,E85 and dedicated monofuel LPG.
There is another company using VE sedans testing electric at the moment but not associated with GM.

Maybe the same one, maybe an additional one, but in Sydney's northern fringe/beaches area they are working on electric VEs, and making good progress.

I can't see a diesel making it's way into the commodore for at least a couple more years - they've invested too much in SIDI & vapour injected LPG for the V6.

Its possible Mick,the Calais down here in Melb was doing test trips to Sydney a few weeks ago.
It has a green sticker on the n/plate like a red LPG and no mufflers ;-)

Yep that would be it.
A couple of ex GM personel working on the program,but GM not involved
that i know of,although being able to use GM facilities.
Maybe Holden are letting them do the ground work and are keeping a keen interest if its viable.

After todays stupid fuel price increase warning,the project might get more attention.

That's the same story I got too - Holden are at arms length for assistance when needed, but the Sydney component of the R&D is govt funded, not Holden funded. If proven viable, then it will get the nod from Holden to go into further pre-production development, and eventually production. There's also some payback deal for the funding too.

The people involved that I've met each have IQs that would be more than the rest of us in this thread combined.
