Looks like a "Coupe Utility" to me. Someone took their compliance plate a little too literally.

John
Did you get ID plate data off it (just in case it is Sandman ID plates)?
It looks like ute/van quarters, LX-UC hatch lid-roof and maybe Statesman arse end. Dash looks to be HJ-WB and rails are HQ-mid HX. |

Ute (fuel filler is a give away/could be a van also) with LX hatch back lid as stated earlier.

Possibly HQ or later panel van. the rear door and tail gate cut off or rusted allowing the roof to drop down at the back. part of opening on the side looks a bit like a window.

Watched Mad Max last night and in the first 10 mins of the movie is sequence set at a service station in which we see a green HJ-HX ute with a similar modified body, it does'nt have the quarter window cutouts, but cars were constantly cut and shut back then, who knows what became of that ute and how many were modified in that manner of creating some sort of hatch back?

I bought some stuff from ebay a few years ago off a bloke around bendigo who reckons he has this ute. He said it had fibreglass bits on the back of the cabin joining the ute sides but he took them off years ago. He showed me on the ute where it had all these holes in the tray, as he said it was just in that one scene and the rest if the time it was used as a camera car to film moving scenes and had cameras/cranes etc mounted in the back. Seems feasible....?
