Have you looked at buying brand new brake calipers? Quite a few companies make them and I'm finding that some brand new gear is the same price if not much more than the reco stuff...

PBR & DBA are two Australian companies that I can think of off hand and I think even Hopper Stoppers may supply parts as well as their renown kit upgrades.

I can't say I've seen calipers 'honed', what does this involve?

I think what davo meant was to have pistons polished, he just used the wrong word. Unlike wheel cylinders, the piston is the wearing part, not the cylinder/caliper bore.

The cost of overhauling calipers depends very much on the condition of the pistons. If they are beyond polishing (i.e. too corroded) then new pistons are needed, pushing up the price.
