Is that a manifold part number or cast number? By the number it'll be a HX-HX or late LX manifold.

Yes, I believe that is a casting number,

I'm pretty sure it is a ADR27A 5.0 V8 inlet manifold off an HX, HZ, VB or 7/76 onwards LX.

It won't be all of those as there is 2 x different kinds of red ADR27A manifold. The earlier one has a big barrel down one side that looks like it was meant to have water in it probably for proposed cooling of the exhaust crossover. Not with any confidence I reckon the ugly barrel one is late HJ, HX and most LX and the one with the flat top where it meets the head is HZ and late LX and VB.

Yes you are correct, but they are interchangeable.

The HX manual says the same number but ending in 4. This one has the small hose running from the drivers side of the manifold to the thermostat housing. I thought these were only on pre pollution manifolds?

Cheers

Casting numbers are often different to part numbers by 1 or 2 numbers.

Does it have any provision for an EGR valve or any exhaust crossover channel between the inlet faces ?

It may be an earlier one then.

I'd like to see a photo.

The casting numbers I have recorded for pre-pollution HQ/HJ V8 all begin with 28xxxxxx.

^^That is why I initially suggested it was a later one.

I just looked in the HX parts catalogue. Part number 9929854 is listed for HX 308 with ADR27A. There is part numbers for the "without exhaust emission control" manifolds in the same catalogue that start with 99, 2 x different numbers for manual and auto. I think this is actually a mistake and it is the other way around ie 9929854 is the pre ADR27A water heated manifold and the other two listed as 2 x different part numbers for auto and manual are the EGR style manifold (part numbers are different as the manual manifold has the blanking plate on it as they have no EGR valve). The late HJ catalogue has it what I believe to be correct (opposite to the HX catalogue). A quick check of the early LX catalogue and the late LH catalogue both show 9929854 as the 308 manifold. HZ does the same.

So what you have is a HJ, LH-5/76 LX 308 inlet (suits cars pre ADR27A). Suits HT-HJ, LH-5/76 LX heads.

For some reason the part number has changed from a 28 prefix to 99 prefix at LH Torana release. The early LH and early HJ catalogues show it as 99. So something changed at that time as HT-HG and HQ have 28 prefixes (HQ part number appears to change also between catalogue editions).

I can't get a pic at the moment but it is the same as this one http://www.ebay.com.au/i...rksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

I also have one (with damaged threads) that looks exactly the same, but the numbers are 2823087 and it has a small X above the 8, if that means anything?

Cheers

That is HQ-HJ, LH etc as posted above. The HT-HG look almost the same but have a threaded hole in the round boss on the front water crossover.

Ahh OK, thanks for the learning! Do the later ones have a smoother casting? I have noticed some have a smoother look to them.

Cheers
