just wondering if the distance the fan is from the radiator makes much of a difference on how effective it is? is it better to be half in/half out of the shroud or as far under the shroud as close to the radiator as possible ect ?

The back of the fan should be in line with the end of the radiator shroud. That way it is working at 100% efficientcy. The whole fan spinning in the smallest part of the shroud will draw the maximum amount of air through the radiator. Eithor side of this
