I have a 302 Cleveland, intake manifold to sump. Hasn't been used for at least 10+ years, have pulled it down and checked it out. Rotates fine, pistons aren't sloppy, bores look good to the eye.
I'm a Holden man and don't know what's what with these engines but seems alright to me. Obviously needs new gaskets etc.
My question to you guys is, what's it worth?
Cheers

You could ask that but $200-$300 might be more like it IMHO.

The 302C is Fords 253 not bad but somewhat un loved. The difference is that a good condition 302C is a great place to start if you want to stroke it to 351 or more whereas a 253 is generally stuck with being a 253.

It also depends on what year the 302 was built. Later blocks are called bubble or pillow blocks and they are the pick of the bunch. These are generally painted black not blue.

Is the inlet manifold 2 barrel or 4 barrel? does it have an electronic distributor? These can add value.

What Cav says is correct. From what I know all XC engines were 4 barrel and electronic ignition but were still painted blue. XD and XE engines were painted black. XA and XB 302C's were painted blue, had points ignition and were 2 barrel so yours sounds like an early example that has been painted black.

Can you get the VIN off the block? We can tell you what year the motor is with that. Facing the engine the VIN will be on the right front side of the block, just under the head.

From my memory (it's getting rusty) the black painted V8s were introduced in mid-78 about 6 months before the XD intro.

All XC/D/E V8s had 4-barrel Carter Thermoquad carbies but not all had electronic ignition. All the 351s in those models had electronic ignition but the 302 didn't get it until the XC 1/2 update.
