Firstly they are not suppose to be left in the car, so the short answer is no where.
However some get left in the car when the carpet is fitted, some get left under the dash. But it is very rare to find one in pre VL Commodore.
Almost impossible in in a VT.

Greetings, Try looking up in the upper trailing arms. Lots of HQs have them there and in surprisingly good condition given the location. |
look out, the guru is coming through... |

I'm gutting out a VT exec at the moment to build a club car and found a "struts assembly" sheet for my car under the RHR side of the carpet.

I was told once, look up under the dash or under the back seat. Looked but no luck
