Any one Installing a mechanical oil pressure gauge be aware! Make sure you bleed the air out Of the line completely before you start the motor. I did not do this . Net result - the air in the line compresses when the engine starts . Then when you turn off it seems to have sucked the oil back away from the oil pump . This means that next time you start up, the oil pump is not primed . This is What I think has happened anyway due to no oil pressure on next start up |

I have had an oil mpressure gauge on my cleveland without any problems, by memory clevelands have very hi oil pressure aprox 50-70psi.
You can prime up the oil pump without even starting the engine with like a female hex and extension hooked up to a drill. You need to drive the hex underneath the dizzy, just make sure you don't drop anything in there, and make sure the drill is spinning in the same direction of dizzy rotation, by memory it's anti-clockwise.

wouldnt think its that much of a problem, id be more looking into your oil filter, did you change that at the same time?

The motor was freshly built all rebored new everything. Hyd lifters and bolt on roller rockers. After I wrote this post I discovered the problem. The gauge did not work due the oil being trapped,by air in the line . My stupid mistake . I had oil presure all the time but could not read,it on the gauge . The warning light on the dash is also broken . |
