any help here would be appreciated.....how long after engines were cast (in 1973) would they be fitted to the cars ? yep....i am still trying to workout the origin of this 308 i have with 10G3 casting numbers......thanx...toby.

1 week to 3 months normally. The one you have can't be an original engine number, it must have been restamped, unless it is 10G8. Holden engines were stamped at the engine plant at Fishermans Bend, not at the vehicle assembly plants. So once an engine was completed it got an engine number.

ok, thanx bryon, its good to pik at an educated brain...lol...
definately this block has been restamped,as under the blu paint, is red, and i have cleaned the casting area, and it clearly reads 10G3.

Another way to tell for sure is to get me a photo of the back of the block where the bellhousing bolts up. I'll be able to tell you straight away if it is a 1973 or 1978 block.

AS SOON AS I LEARN TO UPLOAD PHOTOS, I WILL DO THAT. IF IT HELPS ANY, WE BOLTED UP A TRIMATIC BOX FROM A VB-VK,JUST TO CHECK AND IT FITTED ON.
