130 red motor was a export engine as far as i know there is a reason why holden did not just put the 138 red in the export and that has to do with the Asian rego rules if you go over 2.2L you cop a higher yearly rego.
Now what about the grey motors did they export them using the old 132.5ci in the FB holdens to EJ. i think they must of done so.

Did NZ get 130ci in the HQ holden.

Yes, Holdens with Grey motors had been exported since the FJ.

Left-hand drive versions were built also from FB onwards.

As you say rego or tax laws in certain countries were the reason for the 130 ci Red. What I can't understand is why they bothered building the 138 for the LC when the 130 was already in production.

If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0

I think that the FB export are 132.5ci not 138 grey as it's just a bored out 132.5 anyway.
I think the 138 red block is a 130 casting just bored out. just like the 179 became a 186 deal.
And the 130 becoming a 138 must be due to all that extra power.

Just as a side note, a mate had a 138 torana and i had my new HQ monaro and he reved his 138 3 sp manual and droped the clutch on an intersection where all the stones gather, boy i still remember that !
