Someone might buy them for a garage wall, but not at that price! I don't have an issue with someone obtaining them; using them incorrectly is the issue. It is not like they are super rare or valuable though, they are only off a 6cyl HG GTS. |

Nasty..Fact that his cut out body number is a bit concerning. Can't come to any other conclusion then he is expecting someone to buy with a view to attaching to another body. Unless you think a big hacked out chunk of steel will look great hanging on your wall. |

The intention of the seller is clear, but it is not him who is committing fraud - that is for the buyer who uses them to do! Where it may get a bit wierd legally is if the buyer actually has a HG GTS missing its tags! |

I might be wrong but I thought it was illegal to do what he is doing. Whether it be the buyer or seller it shows intent. Maybe not the manufacturers plates but cutting out the body Number? Again, I may be wrong. |

I don't think it is that bad to cut it out and keep the plates especially if the car is destroyed eg as a keepsake. It is however illegal to remove an ADR plate, and is now an offence to tamper with the other plates (eg change them or move them to another car). Selling them may actually be a worse offence! They won't last long on Ebay though, they'll get removed. |

Rivet holes in the plates are a bit sad too. For two and a half I'd be wanting the glove box with a big wad of 100's thrown in.

I think you will find it is illegal to be in possession of a compliance plate not attached to a vehicle.
As for the removal of the identifier (firewall number) may also be illegal.
The only reason you would pay that sort of money is to re birth. And the seller has priced it accordingly. As a collector would be lucky to pay $50 for a GTS vinyl roof tag.
So the seller also has intent in this case.

I remove the tags and the firewall number and zip tie them to the number plates on every HK HT HG I recycle. Purely for reference purposes. I don't sell them. Is that illegal? |

Yes Simon it is. Unfortunately you may be doing for legitimate reasons but there are others that are not.
It opens a real can of worms for tag collectors and historians.

I'd rather keep them together for reference purposes. The vehicles I remove them from are scrapped. It would be a waste to leave them on. Send the cops around. |

What about all those GTHO's owners I see who keep their tags safely stored away. Seen a lot of them at shows with tags off. Went to an auction at Homebush Sydney with a mate who had winning bid on a XW GTHO phase 11 with tags in mid 80's. Came back to pick up that afternoon and wouldn't you know it, no tags. Lucky we checked, but still had a hell of a time getting out of the deal. |
