Hi Guys, Any wiring experts out there. I have used a HZ wiring loom to wire up a hot rod. Stripped out what I did not need and kept what I did. My probelm is with the pink resitance wire running to the coil. I have a Thick pink wire of the fuse box to the ignition switch and then the reistance wire is spliced in to this as per the holden wiring diagram. The pink wire is spliced back into the yellow wire to the coil in the holden diagram but I have run the pink direct to the coil and is live when ignition switch is on and the yellow wire direct to coil and is live only when key turned to start position for starter motor. The Pink wire has about 5.4 volts at the coil and the yellow has about 10.4 when starter activated. The pink wire from the fuse box and the resitance wire are getting very hot when the ignition is on. Have not fired the motor yet so do not know if it is a problem when the car is running. Should this be getting hot. Is it something to worry about or is it only because the motor is not running. Any ideas. Hope that all makes sense

Ok I'll try to explain. The ign system is designed to perfome the best spark at 9volts. So the resistance wire dose this when the keys in the ign position. During start up position (Cranking)because the starter draws a couple hundred amps you get voltage

read your question again are you running a 9 volt system. And if not being running then you probably getting full supply current as once the ing system is operating you get more resistance due to inductance (resistance caused by opposing magnetic fields i

You can't splice a wire in to the resistance wire without altering the resistance the resistance wire is designed to run the length it is. It normally does get hot but is designed to. If you have an extra bit of wire in there it most likely is not resista

I am running a 283 chev with a twin point mallory distributer. The pink wire was not spliced into but joins to the same spot on the ignition system as the wire running from the fuse box to supply power. This is how the Holden wiring diagram shows it. I

Assuming the HZ is the same as the HQ…it all stems from the ign switch. Yes the pink and yellow join at the bulkhead. On the engine bay side all you see if the yellow lead. These leads originate at different connectors on the IGN switch.

just get rid of the pink resistance wire and replace it with a 15 amp wire then use a ballast resistor with your coil if its not long enough. It should be 1.8 + or - .05 Ohms. You could always measure the one you modified if you have a multimeter.
