Yes, but be careful of what you actually paint black.

The headlight rims are black except for the outer 3 - 4 mm which remains the standard anodised finish.

The grille only has the center section black, the sides (if that's the correct term) remain silver. The stainless steel trim also remains.

Thanks Terry,I know how they have to look but I just need to know if that is how they were from factory with the phantom grey or were the just fully anodised and the grille just silver?

Hi Tony. If you do a search on this site, type in `HQ GTS grille stripes` you will find some photos posted a while ago. Bye, Peter

Tony, that is a very odd question, I don't know any way of measuring who is best & I'm sure you won't find a person on the planet who knows 'everything' about Monaros.

I think that best feature of this forum is the 'pooling' of all our resources. We all learn off each other.

Ask your questions here on the forum & see what eventuates.

Well mate I dont think it is an odd question just one in general,I am still trying to hunt down pics of a GTS Coupe painted in phantom grey metallic MK11,when I bought mine in 98 that was its colour, but as I have already asked about the blackouts I need to know if holden really did do that with them like they did with the LJXU1 in that colour.
When I bought mine it did not have any blackout what so ever,I asked the owner before me if he knew and he did not have a clue,so I decided to street machine it and that is how it stayed for a few years,as now I am older a bit wiser I just love the factory colour and look and just want to get it right,I do not ever plan to sell it as it is a big part of our family so if I can just find some sought of reference that would help.

Regards Tony.

1971 and 1972 HQ GTS monaros blackouts were all painted the same no matter what the body colour was. your phantom grey would've had blacks sills with the chrome trim above it just like the one in the poster http://www.monarocoupe.c...%20page%20images/GTS.JPG

In random order IMHO, Ben Stewart, Warren Turnbull, Norm Darwin and the good doctor Terry. If these guys cannot answer your questions then sunshine you are in trouble. Buy all the Monaro books there are a lot of answers in them and as the good Doctor says "I think that best feature of this forum is the 'pooling' of all our resources. We all learn off each other." There are also a lot of other members of this forum with great knowledge if only with a lesser profile.
Cheers
