Hi All
Just looking at some information about this garage in Gunning N.S.W on the ACT FE-HR owners club site. There is a claim that this was once the largest Holden dealer in N.S.W. Does anyone know if this is true and at what time it was the largest? Gunning is a tiny town and it is hard to imagine more Holdens being sold there than in the big Sydney dealerships. Cheers
Richard

The "largest" could be physical size of the yard as well... or it could be anything really.
It's hard to imagine anyone bigger in sales volume than the Suttons group - especially in the 80s, but I once visited a small dealership in country NSW who's claim to fame was the highest number of a particular niche model sold during a 12 month period - even outselling Suttons - it was obviously a good crop year.

To add to what commodorenut has said, largest doesn't have to mean most cars sold, it could just be physical size of maybe just the service dept.
My guess is that it was the largest in sales of all of the country dealerships, i.e. outside metro Sydney.
Some the metro dealers like Boyded, Suttons or going back further, Stack & Co. would dwarf any country dealership.

Someone will have the sales figures for Bailey's for the early 60's - 70's their dealer code is:-
533 Country 2 NSW GUNNING BAILEY'S GARAGE P/L (Gunning) 1/8/1945 1/11/1999 86-88 YASS ST GUNNING NSW 2581 2581 064 451224 As the other guys said probably some obscure category although sales performance was based on increased performance over last years sales. e.g. sold one last year and then sold 2 this year thats a 100% increase, big metro dealerships can't compete with that when thay are in the 1000's of sales per model. In 1983 they were ranked 71st in NSW, with 8 passenger vehicles and 5 light commercials sales. Cheers Balfizar Edited by user Saturday, 2 February 2013 9:35:59 PM(UTC)

Just wondering if their heyday would of been back when the Hume Hwy went through Gunning rather than around it.
On those sales figures from 1983, its certainly not looking good for a claim of biggest in sales volume!

I would say largest floor area. Black Toyota would have had a massive sales figure in the 90's though. They were QLD based, Toowoomba I think. They had fantastic prices advertised in the Land newspaper. Every second Landcruiser and Hilux you saw in NSW was Black Toyota. Black Toyota now own most of the big Toyota dealerships in rural NSW.So you don't need to be city based to be a big dealership.
