Wondering if anyone can help
I have a P5 1974 LTD with a 351 Cleveland there are no markings in the usual spot to determine if i have 2v or 4v heads.
How can i tell what heads i have without pulling the engine apart?
Its the original motor in car, would the id codes be able to give me this info?
any and as much info would be much appreciated

All p5 LTDs have T code motors.
That is, T under engine code on the compliance plate
This is a 351 4V.
BUT the V stands for Venturi, as in 4 barrel carburetor
In your case it would be a motorcraft 4300 605cfm Carbie
No p5 LTD came out with 4v heads from factory.
PS: dont take this as an attack on p5s! I love Landau's and P5 LTDs. Currently have one Landau and owned two others as well.

Some have 2 in the corner but most are basically bare with no markings.
Will be 2v heads in my opinion.
If you can get the heads off the block you can decode the year month and date of their manucture

If it had the chrome lid with black base from factory, it would have no stciker
It it had the blue lid and base from factory it would have the 351 4v sticker.
Where 4v stands for 4 venturi aka 4 barrel

Don't want to muddy the waters but read in AMC that some of the phase 4 motors that were built were thrown into LTDs to get rid of them. They were detuned with a smaller carb. Chances of your motor being one is slim but a few 4V motors did end up in LTDs. I've seen 2 LTDs with the big heads from factory. One was at a Ford wreckers about 20 years ago as the poor old LTD was rusted out and nobody loved them back then. The motor was being sent to NZ. The other was in my mates uncles car. It was a cosmic blue LTD and he'd owned it since new so I knew it had never been tampered with. That car was mint.

Phase 4 solid cam 4v motors in LTDs with power steering and air conditioning?
Would love to believe it but I will agree to disagree

I've no idea if the motors in the LTDs I saw were solid cam motors. They were both carrying 4V heads on them though. If you read up about what happened when the phase 4 was killed off a lot of the stuff was put into the XA GT RPOs. A lot of other bits and pieces were thrown back into the parts bin to go on any cleveland powered car whether it be a fairlane, LTD etc. There were 200 phase 4 QC motors built. They didn't all go into the RPOs. That's just what I read. I wasn't there so could be 100% wrong.

The only markings on the heads is the USA ones, as our aussie heads do not have it cast on. One can tell if it is a aussie 302 or 351 just by looking at the front of the head to the gasket. The USA motors sent to aus only have 351 with 4 or 4 with a dot casting or 2 or a 2 with a dot, the dot is a square block casting type. and then the USA get nothing or a M cast on the head from 1975 on. my dads aussie 1971 Galaxie 400 cleveland had nothing cast on the heads, it was DIF cast not cleveland. I would think a 4V head with a 2V cam would not perform any better at all, as the XY-A GT 4V has a bit bigger cam then the std 2V. and XA GT auto's got 2V 351 motors about June 1972, so why would a P5 get 4V heads. I am sure the so called Phase 4 motors would of sold to Moffat etc and you could pick them up at the ford dealer. and remember all the GT-HO Motors were just GT motors that Ford AUS disassembled hear and put the big cam in etc.

iv also seen pics online of 4 marked heads with 2v ports

The 4 you are on about is only on the top edge ? not the other 4 or 3 etc that are down lower and round abouts.
