Hi Guys.

Does anybody out there have an original HR Premier wagon with either an X2 or 186S fitted. Even a photo taken (side on) would do.

A long term friend of mine & I are discussing the location of the X2 (or 186S) badge on the front guard. All other HRs except the Premier wagon have it located just below the waist-line crease about 200 mm forward of the front door. Premier wagons however have a Premier badge located just above the crease in that location. So if both badges are fitted there it looks a bit crowded.

It seems that Premier wagons (only) have the engine badge nearer the front edge of the guard, HK style. The problem is we have come across very few original cars & the badges have been in either location. Does anyone here know the factory correct location for this badge ?

There is a pic in the 48-HR (20 year) parts book showing all the badges on an HR wagon (drawing) with an engine badge in the frontmost location. Is this enough proof, it's not much is it.

Hello, yes the 186S badge is located to the front of the guard ONLY on HR 186S Premier wagons.

On the subject of HR X2's, would a manual wagon be uncommon?
I was talking with a guy yesterday that has an original one with 60,000 miles on the clock.
I'll see if I can get an image for the badge position.
Forgot to mention, it's a Premier.

Yes any HR with a X2 or S option would be rare now days.

I've seen quite a few HR manual wagons in both 186 X2 & 186 S. What seem to be rare are Premier wagons with this option.

Probably the rarest combination would have to be a 186S, 4-sp Opel Premier wagon.

It's the badge location on Premier wagons only that we are discussing. Special wagons have the badge located the same as sedans.

I have several factory photos of X2 Special wagons, but not Premier.

Hi Dr Terry, I would have to agree after owning a couple of HR 186S cars the one I have now would be a rare one, been a Premier wagon with S option and the opel 4 speed. Mine also had dealer fitted powersteering. Has LSD, electric tailgate and was even fitted a front tow pack. Also had an unusual set of tramp rods fitted to the rear diff springs.

Mine belonged to Nettlefolds the Hobart dealer who always did up the odd car to something special, where a few of his personal cars still exist. This included chevs as well.

Its a pitty that the last person who had my car stripped and now its a little rough, but one day it will make it back onto the road as it was made.

..a bit off topic but Bathurst 72 mentioned unusual tramp rods on his HR Premier wagon....

...would these be the precursor to the radius rods that were mounted into the rear wheel arches of, at least, the HK GTS327 manuals?

Wow, that's one loaded HR. The front towbar is a rare thing, I've only ever seen one actually fitted to a car.

I would suggest that the tramp rods would be dealer-fitted aftermarket items to aid towing. It's not likely that their related to the HK GTS factory tramp rods.

HK ones virtually bolt onto a HR, only the the rod and spacer need to be shortened a fraction. My guess is they probably are HK ones, but coiuld just as easily be aftermarket s Dr Terry says.

Hi, no they are not HK ones modified, they are a very strange thing with them bolting to the front spring eye, and through a rod onto a plate which bolts onto the spring plate to axle, if that makes sense??

I have not seen another set before.

I remember seeing that style on hotted up old Holdens in the early 70s.

I think I might have an old magazine around somewhere which has an advert for them.

Hi Dr Terry, if possible could I get a copy off you????

I have only ever seen this car with a front tow pack. The tongue was missing. The stone tray has two holes for the tongue and there was a plate setup fitted into the front outrigger.

Have you ever seen the front nudge/push bar fitted to HR?????
