G'day fellas, ready to send all the nuts bolts brackets hinges etc for my Monaro resto to the platers, just want to know which bits are gold? Am I correct in thinking the majority of bits are silver and a lesser amount in gold??

Cant help you there, Im not sure which items had the gold/yellow zinc passivate treatment.
Just be sure to ask them to blue passivate all the silver parts, passivating adds extra corrosion protection and it will last for many years. Looks alot shinier with a slight tinge of blue about it. Without the blue passivate coat it will go white and rusty before 10-years is up.
Allot of places wont do it unless you tell them, they'll just give you a standard zinc plating and send you on your way.
Yellow passivate will give you that gold look obviously.

Greetings, Just go look at any HK to HG cars as they all have basically the same bits in the same colours. The original plating was cadmium based so any plating today will be different for starters. The spring washers were all copper coated so you will need three colours in total. |

There are four colours. Black can be done too. There are numerous parts that are plated in black as well as gold, silver and copper. |

No, not really. You just have to spend years of owning them and pulling dozens apart. I recycle the cars for a living and reference whatever I can, especially the original plating colours. I spend hours on end sorting cleaning and preparing original nuts, bolts, clips etc. I do a lot for Classic and Muscle Restorations in Adelaide and I keep them up to speed with everything I "discover" so as to allow there many Monaro restorations to be as accurate as we can get them.
What parts in particular would you like to know about? I'm happy to share any information. |
