I've been looking through the net for a couple of hours trying to find some information on engine swaps. Unfortunately, I don't have any concise set of information.

I've got a 1972 HQ 1 Tonner with a 308 engine and I would like to swap the engine for something newer (LS1, LS2, LS3). What is legal and what isn't in QLD? There is a rule that relates cc's to weight of the car - does that apply for vehicles that old?

Can I use an LSX376 or LSX454? These engines were never registered in QLD and I wonder what the rules are (haven't they recently changed?)

It would be great if you could give me a short reply!

That's the only info I've found:

Maximum engine capacity Qld:
Naturally Aspirated
All vehicles originally weighing more than 1100 kg: Original mass (kg) x 5.0 = max. capacity in ccs
-> Kerb Weight: One-Tonner (6 Cylinder): 1292kg x5 = 6460 cc = 394 CUI
-> Kerb Weight: One-Tonner (8 Cylinder): 1336kg x5 = 6680 cc = 407 CUI
Super/Turbocharged
All vehicles originally weighing more than 1100 kg: Original mass (kg) x 3.0 = max. capacity in ccs
-> Kerb Weight: One-Tonner (6 Cylinder): 1292kg x3 = 3876 cc = 237 CUI
-> Kerb Weight: One-Tonner (8 Cylinder): 1336kg x3 = 4008 cc = 244 CUI

So a LSX376 looks like it could be made legal

change the engine and keep your mouth shut
Old holdens brought on the spot, quick decision, cash paid.
