Just purchased this ute and have no rego history with it.
Word of mouth from past owners suggests it was Newcastle PMG until sold in 1970 to a private buyer.
Any input would be greatly appreciated

Having real trouble getting images up. Watch this space......

Yeah, most likely PMG.

900 is the combination number for Mercury Red (PMG Red)

S18 is also a Government PO number for a special order built to their specs.

C61 is Elephant Grey interior trim, is it that colour ?

Sure is Elephant Grey Terry
Wouldn't the 0046 denote the colour ? Not the 900 ?
Cheers for the help, Ted

They both do.

900 is the in-house GM-H code (or combination number) for a car painted Mercury Red all over.

0046 is the Dulux formula code for the paint itself.

For example if the car was painted Mercury Red & had a Glacier White roof (unusual for a ute but we'll pretend it's a sedan for the sake of illustration) the TRIM combination number would begin with 1095. The PAINT number would still be 0046, but 13134 (Glacier White) would be stamped on the TOP line.

Thanks Terry and Silverfox, it will get there, just needs some TLC and research as to what goes where and what colour etc ?

Terry I noticed these EH ute tags on ebay recently
Manifest Orange body with a Snowcrest White turret
Trim seems to say C68 which I dont have listed anywhere ?
Any idea what this ute would have been ?

Another special order car (most likely government). Note the S2 in the BODY number.

Also Manifest Orange with a Snowcrest White turret, probably Dept. of Civil Aviation or similar.

I have no record of C68 either .

Cheers Kookaburra, we are pretty chuffed with this addition to our EH collection.

Thanks again Terry, now the questions begin....
This will be my first crack at an authentic having only had modified EH's for almost 30 years.

Most items I need to get back to original are fairly obvious and can be researched from original sales brochures etc

This ute has a 161 which has to go. Would Gov had just ordered the povo pack 149H or posssibly a 179 ?

Colour of the tray board ? I'm hearing Mundy brown ?

This seems a contentious one. The cargo strips, body colour ? Mundy brown ? or Zinc ?

The colour of the six caps on the tar top battery ? Another contentious issue

Radio ? or no radio ?

That is all I can think of for now but I'm sure more questions will arise as the tidy up progresses

Hi Ted.

Yes, nice find. Is this car too good to a full resto on, or do the pictures give that impression ?

OK. Engine, I'm sure this ute would've left the factory with a regular 149 (M) engine. The body number looks too early to have had a 179 in it. Can you post a few underbonnet pics so I can determine its month/year. What is the chassis number ? If the tailgate is original, can you see any evidence of the holes for a 179 badge in the top centre of that panel ?

Also, can you imagine the PMG fleet having anything but 'poverty packs'.

The colour of the tray board seems to vary from plant to plant, but Mundi Brown is the most common. Likewise the strips, they can be either Mundi Brown or zinc plated.

Tartop battery cap colour also varies because each plant used different suppliers. I've found red or green to be the most common.

Radio, again highly unlikely for a PMG fleet car, but they were an accessory anyway, not a factory fitment, so one could've been fitted a year or 2 after delivery.

Dr Terry

BTW are you the same Ted Brennan I spoke to in relation to the Kiama show late last year ?

One in the same Terry, although I am no longer a member of the EJ/EH Owners of Southern NSW.
Thanks for all the info, will now hunt for a 149 and start from there.
Should be an easy car to display accessories wise if everyone is in agreement it was most likely bare bones.
Full resto is not needed I believe but the paint is really showing its age, down the track it could do with a closed door paintjob so to speak. Nil sign of any rust under the floors or in under the rear tray where utes usually go. Sills are great, doglegs great, some small bubbles at the bottom of the guards.
Will post a pic of the chassis number when I get a chance

Congratulation's on your purchase, I haven't seen a PMG ute since they were around when I was a kid.Really good to see this example in such a clean unrestored state.
