Hi guys,
I'm doing a gearbox conversion for a mate in his 76 F100.
Was a 4 speed manual and now C6 Auto behind his 351 C.
Having problems getting the gearbox to fully close up around the bell housing to the block. There is like a 1.5 - 2.0mm gap on either side although the top has closed up nicely, but the bolts are tight. Even removed the guide pins on either side as I thought they might be binding and holding it up.
This is a brand new C6, Torque converter and Flexplate. Only thing still retained from the Manual setup is the Steel thin plate that goes between the block and the Gearbox. Any ideas why this gap is there. Really got me stumped. Thanks in advance.

Silly question but is the flexplate (flywheel) on the right way around?

They have a slight offset which places the ring gear closer to the engine.

HTH, Jim...

Hi Jim,
I've put the flexplate on so the stepped offset is facing the crankshaft, this looks to be correct to me as the inner circular hole has a lead in to the crankshaft if you get what I mean. I'm actually wondering if I need the steel thin plate between the Engine block and Transmission, (this was fitted with the Manual trans) maybe something in that which is causing the shortage of about 2mm to close it up.

All sorted,
Fitted the Torque converter into the Trans first - then moved the Trans with Converter fitted, up to the Engine block and bolted the Converter to the Flexplate. Seems it was never sliding onto the splines on the Trans input shaft, and engaging. Shortened up the Drive-shaft, Tig welded the Universal boss back into the Drive-shaft and off to get it balanced tomorrow.
