Hey guys got a 5speed box in an Ea that wont stay in reverse, as soon as you let the cluch out bang it pops out, you can not even hold the shifter in place it just refuses to stay in reverse. Any ideas? thanks for looking :-) |

I don't know the guts of these boxes, but as per any normal box, reverse is usually a spur (straight cut) gear. The other gears (1st - 5th) usually run helical gears (angled cut) which create thrust as they rotate. Hopefully you understand what I mean!!

I cant remember if the 88 EA's were still running XF 'boxes or were onto the T5, but my parents ED has the same prob (sometimes), the thing i found that usually works is to pump the clutch a few times in neutral then select 1st then try reverse... not sur

Thanks guys, I know the EA box is different to the XF. All geasrs from 1 to 5 are ok, clutch is ok, box has never been out of car AFAIK. Shift is easy and feels as if it goes all the way, even engages and starts to move the car, no grinding or clash of ge |

i have automatic transmision and reverse is not working it is EA ford but the forward is working ok please help
